Converting redundant agricultural buildings for housing or commercial use
Planning laws now allow for the conversion of redundant agricultural buildings to residential dwellings (up to 450 square metres for up to 3 dwellings) and also for commercial uses (up to 150 square metres or up to 500 square metres for schools or nurseries). While there are a number of restrictions such as listed buildings or being in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this situation nonetheless presents significant opportunities for farm owners.
"This is the second time that I have used Karenna Wilford Architects. I asked her to provide a re-design for a tired and badly laid out property. Karenna went beyond the brief and produced three different designs to meet different budget levels for potential purchasers. Karenna liaised with the appointed estate agent and his feedback has been exceptional. Karenna’s three designs are innovative and made the most of the amazing site but were also realistic in terms of feasibility. I would have no hesitation in recommending Karenna and her team."
Karenna Wilford Architects have experience of both residential and commercial development as well as the conversion of redundant agricultural buildings. We can guide your ideas and turn them into creative plans that best meet your goals while staying within budget. "I have carried out a few barn conversions as a developer but bought this one for a family home. Karenna and her team were very professional and managed to get planning permission to convert a barn and outbuildings into a 5 bedroomed house with garaging and stables. I am really pleased with the result, the sense of space with high ceilings and quality of light is just what we wanted."
