Converting redundant agricultural buildings for housing or commercial use
Planning laws now allow for the conversion of redundant agricultural buildings to residential dwellings (up to 450 square metres for up to 3 dwellings) and also for commercial uses (up to 150 square metres or up to 500 square metres for schools or nurseries). While there are a number of restrictions such as listed buildings or being in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), this situation nonetheless presents significant opportunities for farm owners.
"KWA came highly recommended as the practice had experience with converting redundant agricultural buildings into housing. They offered practical advice and were involved in the project from inception to the planning application stage. The design was innovative and exceeded the brief I gave, which was to design a new eco-friendly five bedroom house in a rural location. Karenna and her team were extremely professional and easy to work with, I would not hesitate to recommend them."

“… They listened to what we wanted and the resulting design used the restricted space very creatively… We are delighted with the results and enjoyed working with Karenna and her team. “
“…Karenna and her team have helped us beyond all expectation to design a first-floor extension and have shown such creativity in suggesting concepts that we would never had imagined.”

"I have carried out a few barn conversions as a developer but bought this one for a family home. Karenna and her team were very professional and managed to get planning permission to convert a barn and outbuildings into a 5 bedroomed house with garaging and stables. I am really pleased with the result, the sense of space with high ceilings and quality of light is just what we wanted."
